Prenatal Care: A Physical Therapist’s Perspective

A woman’s body experiences a lot of changes during her pregnancy in order to aid in the development of the baby. These changes can result in various aches and pains throughout the body.

Furthermore, giving birth isn’t called “labor” for nothing! Research shows that labor is an intense and extremely taxing experience that can result in physical trauma equivalent to any major sports injury. Therefore, it is extremely important to know how to best manage the changes that are happening while pregnant and prepare your body for delivery and recovery.

Dr. Vivian Zhang earned her BS in Health Sciences at the University of Miami and both her Masters in Anatomy and Clinical Health Science and Doctorate of Physical Therapy at University of Delaware.

Dr. Vivian is an advocate for women's health and is certified in Pelvic Floor Therapy, the treatment of pelvic dysfunctions through rehabilitation of the many muscles, ligaments, and nerves within the pelvis.

Dr. Carson Judkins earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Ithaca College, where she also completed her B.S. in Clinical Health Studies, a minor in French, and a concentration in Mind, Body, and Spirit. There, Carson promoted wellness across campus as an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, cycling instructor, and teacher of yoga and meditation.

Dr. Carson has developed a special interest in pelvic floor rehabilitation and is excited to incorporate these skills into her treatment of the whole self.
